Surgery

Most hand surgeries are performed under local or loco-regional  anesthesia (anesthesia of the arm or forearm).  General anesthesia is rarely used.

Surgery on the skin is performed usually under local anesthesia. If the lesion to be healed is large, general anesthesia is indicated.

For esthetic surgery and reconstructive plastic surgery, the type of anesthesia varies depending on the problem at hand.

The CCMEL surgeons operate in different clinics in Lausanne. These are the Bois-Cerf and Cecil clinics of the Hirslanden group, and Montchoisi clinic.

The choice between these different clinics is based on the type of surgery, the specificity  of the operating rooms, type of anesthesia, and to the extent possible, patient choice.
